PTE Academic Exam Day: Everything You Need to Know Before, During and After

A simple, practical guide to help you walk into the test center calmly, avoid common mistakes, follow the rules and complete your PTE Academic test with confidence.

Most PTE exam day problems are preventable. Students usually struggle not because they do not know English, but because they forget ID, arrive late, panic during check-in, or do not understand what happens inside the test center.

This guide explains the full PTE Academic exam day journey in simple language: what to check before leaving home, what happens at the test center, what you cannot take inside, how the test flows, and what to do after finishing.

Best format for this topic: This works best as one complete blog because exam day is one connected flow: before home, arrival, test room, test rules and after-test steps.

Before You Leave Home: 6 Things to Check

Do these checks before you start your journey. If you miss one important requirement, you may not be allowed to take the test.

1. Read your confirmation email Check your test center address, appointment time and any center-specific instructions.
2. Pack the correct ID Your ID details must match your booking. In most cases, this should be your valid passport.
3. Confirm the exact address Some test centers are inside large buildings. Check the entrance, floor and travel time.
4. Plan your journey Allow extra time for traffic, parking, public transport delays and finding the building.
5. Arrive early Pearson says you should arrive at least 30 minutes before your test so you can check in securely.
6. Prepare your body Sleep properly, eat a light meal and visit the restroom before entering the test room.
Critical rule: No correct ID means no test. Double-check your ID before leaving home, especially if your passport or booking details recently changed.
